Deep Roots, Cold Climate, Bold Character

Every great wine tells a story of the land it comes from, and our property has long been a place for those looking to retreat into the countryside. Located on the beautiful, rolling acreage that was once Fountain Hill Winery, Solhavn Cellars represents a passionate, intentional next chapter for this beloved estate.

We took over this scenic corner of the world with a clear vision: to honor the property's rich, historic foundations while breathing fresh, vibrant energy into the soil and structures. Solhavn is an evolution—a blending of local Minnesota pride with a timeless, modern warmth.

Built for Connection, Bathed in Tradition

The heartbeat of Solhavn Cellars lies in our five acres of established estate vineyards, draped across gently sloping hills that look out toward the water. Growing wine in Minnesota is a distinct labor of love. Our vines are built on grit and resilience, adapted to withstand our freezing winters and thrive under the intense summer sun.

Here, the unique lakeside geography and rich soil give our cold-climate varietals a distinct sense of place that you can taste in every glass. As we tend to our mature rows and cultivate newly planted grapes, we are investing deeply in the future of the land, practicing careful environmental stewardship to ensure these vineyards flourish for decades to come.

From Dairy Farm to Solhavn: The story of this land

  • Mid-20th Century

    Long before the first vines were planted, this hilltop operated as a traditional working family dairy farm. Decades of agricultural care established the soil, shaped the landscape, and set a precedent of hard work and dedication to the land in Wright County.

  • Circa 2008–2009

    The property transitioned into its viticultural chapter when the initial cold-hardy grapevines were planted around 2008. By 2009, it opened as one of the area’s early destination wineries (Fountain Hill Winery), introducing thousands of local visitors to Minnesota-grown wines and establishing the site as a community gathering place.

  • Late 2025–Present

    At the end of 2025, entrepreneur and veteran winery owner Bob Olson acquired the property alongside his son and Operations Manager Mike Olson to launch Solhavn Cellars. Drawing on nearly 15 years of winery leadership, Bob’s vision honors the established vines while expanding winemaking capabilities, introducing a curated portfolio of Minnesota and Washington wines, and creating a modern, welcoming destination.

    Grounded in Scandinavian and Norse tradition, Solhavn translates to "sunny, safe haven." We designed our tasting room and surrounding grounds to be exactly that—a physical expression of light, warmth, and fellowship.

    Every design element has been reimagined to offer an earthy, clean, and inviting atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and stay a while. Featuring expansive views of the vineyard, cozy gathering spaces, and sun-drenched outdoor seating, the tasting room is crafted to be your ultimate countryside comfort spot. Whether you are catching the breeze on the patio or relaxing inside, it is a space designed to harbor the sun and bring people together.
